About this race

I missed the signup deadline. Can I still participate?

Registration officially closed on October 13th. However, you’re welcome to arrive by 8:00 AM on the morning of the event (Oct 24th) to register as a walk-in. You can then join your group or be assigned to a group at that time. Please note that t-shirts are not guaranteed for walk-in participants.

Please refer to our FAQs below to prepare for the event.

See you there!

What is it?

Tidy Up Tomball is a bi-annual trash clean-up event designed to bring the community together to beautify the City of Tomball.

When is it?

Tidy up Tomball is a bi-annual event. The next event is scheduled for October 24, 2026.

Where is it?

401 Houston St. Tomball, TX 77375

How does it work?

Tidy Up Tomball is open to businesses, schools, organizations, families, and friends—everyone is welcome!

Teams will be assigned a clean-up area and meet at 8:00 AM on event day to sign in, get their route number, and pick up supplies. After cleaning their area, teams will place filled trash bags in the designated drop-off spot, then return to check-in to return supplies and complete the event.

How do I sign-up an individual or a team?

Watch our how-to video here. When you register yourself, you'll have the option to add additional participants to your registration. As long as you have the information of each person that you want on your team, you can register each participant. When it gets to the step for choosing a team, create a team name for your group or join an existing one if one has already been made. The other option is to complete your individual sign up, then send the sign-up link to your group and instruct them on what team name to search for to sign-up under when they get to that step.

IMPORTANT: Routes are planned ahead of time using registered team sizes. While teams may bring additional volunteers on event day, registering everyone by the sign-up deadline (October 13, 2026 for the Fall 2026 event) helps us plan better routes, avoid overcrowding, and speed up check-in. Please encourage all of your team members to sign-up by October 13, 2026.

What should I do when I arrive at the event kickoff location?

Please arrive by 8 a.m. the morning of the event. If you pre-registered, start at the pre-registered check-in line. If you did not pre-register, go to the walk-up registration line. Everyone must be registered and checked-in.

Route assignments will be given at check-in and are easily accessible via a QR code, so you can quickly find your cleanup location and instructions online. Larger teams may be assigned multiple routes. Your team can decide how best to divide members to ensure all assigned routes are covered.

After check-in, head to the next tent to pick up your t-shirt and other supplies.

After you’ve checked in and picked up your supplies, locate your assigned route number in the parking lot, where the rest of your cleanup supplies will be waiting. If your team has been assigned multiple routes, please collect the supplies for each route and divide them among your team accordingly.

Our kickoff presentation and announcements will begin around 8:45 a.m. In the meantime, feel free to visit our vendors and sponsors, grab some breakfast (while supplies last), and enjoy the morning! Please do not leave for your assigned cleanup route until after the kickoff presentation and announcements have concluded. We’ll get the fun started shortly after!

What will Tidy Up Tomball be providing?

At kick-off your team will be provided with:

a route assignment with map

trash bags

gloves

safety vests

trash picker uppers

first aid kit

a sharps container

bottled water & coffee

breakfast (available at check-in)

What should I bring with me?

Get your wardrobe ready! We recommend wearing full length pants, tennis shoes or rubber boots, a hat and of course sunscreen. If rain is in the forecast, you may wish to bring a rain jacket or umbrella.

Be prepared to work on routes that may have ditches, slopes, tall grass, or are near the road.

Some families opt to bring a wagon to roll along the route to help carry supplies or tired kiddos.

Camel backs are recommended to keep hydrated as you walk your route.

We will have trash picker uppers and gloves for everyone at kick-off but if you prefer to bring your own, please do.

What if it rains?

A little rain won’t stop us! ️ We’ll continue as planned in a passing rain shower or drizzle, so be sure to bring a rain jacket or umbrella if the forecast calls for it. However, in the event of severe weather, the cleanup may be canceled or rescheduled for everyone’s safety. If that happens, we’ll notify all participants as soon as possible. Keep an eye on your email and event updates on social media!

Will an adult be with my child on their route?

Participants must register in teams, with each team including at least one adult (18+). This allows for flexible planning. We recommend joining your child for the event or arranging for a trusted adult to be the team captain for your child’s group. This ensures a safe and enjoyable experience for all!

How will my child get to their route from kick-off?

Tidy Up Tomball is unable to provide transportation for your child from the kick-off location to their assigned route. We ask that you either attend the event with your child or make arrangements for their transportation—both to and from the route. After completing their route, please ensure they return to the kick-off location to return supplies. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation!

Where should I park on my route?

We recommend parking in a public parking area near your route. On some routes, this may require you to take a short walk to reach your route.

What are the safety rules?

Your online route guide includes instructions on how to complete your route. While we strive to provide the most accurate and helpful guidance, route conditions can sometimes change. Please use your best judgment in the field. For instance, if one side of your route has overgrown grass while the other is clear, it may be more efficient and safer to work from the clearer side.

Teams should move together as a group while cleaning. Stay within 10 feet of another person at all times.

Everyone must wear their provided safety vests at all times.

If it’s icky, use your picky. If you come across something you don’t want to or shouldn’t pick up by hand, use your trash grabber.

Each team will be equipped with a Sharps container. If you come across any needles or items that are considered biohazardous, please use your trash grabber and dispose of these items safely into your Sharps container.

Do not walk on the roads. Do not go into the road to pick up trash. Stay on the grass or sidewalk at all times.

Work your route against traffic.

Designate one person as a traffic watcher to ensure oncoming vehicles see your group and use the provided safety flag to signal them.

If anyone is injured, please call 911.

How did Tidy Up Tomball start?

In 2023, local business owner, Amanda Trickey, noticed a growing litter problem in Tomball as the community expanded.

Raised with a strong sense of environmental responsibility from her youth and paired with inspiration from her involvement in The Big Event at Texas A&M University, she decided to take action.

Amanda proposed the idea of a community-driven trash clean-up event, aiming to instill a culture of cleanliness and responsibility.

With support from fellow business owner Jonetta Barnett, they met with Mayor Lori Klein Quinn to discuss the initiative. That same night, Amanda presented the idea to the Tomball City Council, and Tidy Up Tomball was born.

With swift action, a Board of Directors was formed, 501(c)(3) status was obtained, and Tidy Up Tomball held its inaugural event just 6 short months later in the fall of 2023 with 180 volunteers and 300lbs of trash picked up throughout the community.

Huge thanks to the founding members who came together to make this initiative a reality including Jonetta Barnett, Brooke Cegielski, Amanda Coolidge, Florine Ellis, Elaine Hancock, Drew Huffman, Amanda Kelly, Emma Leatham, Meagan Mageo, Lori Klein Quinn, Nikki Ramon-Gross, Colleen Pye, Alena Strand, Amanda Trickey, and Micheal Truitt.
