21st District "Be the One" 5K Run & Walk

The American Legion, 21st District "Be the One" 5K Run & Walk is a 501(c3) non-profit event intended to bring advocacy and awareness to the number one issue facing veterans today, "SUICIDE."   Alabama records over 120 veteran suicides annually, accounting for roughly 18% of all suicide deaths in the state, while veterans make up only about 9.1% of the population. Factors such as age, gender, homelessness, and mental health play a significant role in the persistent issue of veterans' suicide that plagues our communities.  Jefferson County has implemented a specialized veteran mental health initiative due to elevated risk levels in this area. If you or a veteran you know is in crisis, immediate help is available 24/7.Dial: 988 and press 1 for the Veterans Crisis Line or Text: 838255 to connect with a VA responder.

Note: Online registration ends on October 9, 2026. There will be onsite registration during the event from 9:00am -10:30am.  Online registrations after 5 October 2026 are not guaranteed to receive an event T-Shirt...
