1st Annual Lake Los Angeles Desert Sunrise 5k

Welcome,

The sun is expected to rise a little after 7am.  Whether you're walking or running you’ll make your way through Lake Los Angeles surrounded by desert buttes, wide-open landscapes, local landmarks, and sweeping views of the Mojave Desert sunrise. The course is a balance of paved, dirt path. This out-and-back type course features mild elevation changes and challenging terrain that welcomes experienced runners, casual runners, walkers, families, and community members of all abilities.

Participants: Show the QR code sent via emaill (or in the registration email you got when you signed up) at Check In and we’ll take care of the rest. If you don’t bring the QR code that day, that is okay. 

Participant Instructions

1. Please be at the starting line no later than 6:50a. Walkers will be in the back of the corral, while runners are in the front.

2. Dress appropriately, it will be cold.

3. Check-in cut off is at 6:45a. No exceptions.

Parking

Free parking will be provided at the Lake Los Angeles Marketplace and not at the SBCC Economic Building. Enter the parking lot through 171st street and a parking lot monitor will guide you to your spot. 

Get to Lake Los Angeles early, please do not park in front of any resident houses and try to carpool!

Drop off

You can drop off participants on 171st in front of the Marketplace, please consult the event map for more details. Then, they can walk down to Check-in, at the SBCC Economic Center. A friendly reminder that we are not responsible for their personal belongings.

Finally,

If you registered your group to try and obtain group perks during registration, we shall reach out to you this week to confirm your spot. Not all groups will receive a spot, the groups with most registered participants will. The Course Map will be released on October 22nd, 2026. Please see our best practices below. 

Participant best practices

1. Please wear appropriate shoes whether you’re running or walking

2. Please be nice. Race director will disqualify anyone who is blatantly aggressive to to others during before, during and after the race.

3. Please finish strong at the finsh line, we will capture runner time when your torso hits the line.

4. While we will have water quantities available and we anticipate running out. Please bring water and light snacks.

5. There will be local vendors selling snacks and drinks. 

Best practices for spectators

1. The course is long and arguably not spectator friendly.  2. Please tell your spectators to view you at points in the race where it is safe to do so. Course map will provide tips and suggestions for spectator locations. 

3. Spectators should not jog along with participants, this is really dangerous.

Best practices for all

1. Please consider getting to Lake Los Angeles at 5:45a or earlier. 

2. Please carpool.

3. Please do not park in front of residences.

4. Please pick up your trash
